Top Drawer - My beauty habits.
Posted on 13:27 by Unknown
I have a confession to make - I have a pretty weak interest in tonnes of beauty products and make-up. There, I said it. Whilst I really want to find and adore lovely expensive beauty products, I tend to lose focus and willpower in a proper planned routine. Instead, I opt for a 5-10 minute fix in the mornings to brighten up and get ready for a usually very busy day ahead! I decided to transfer all of my beauty products to my top drawer to clear the clutter from my room and so far it has been very helpful!
(From the top - down)
1. Dry shampoo - This bottle can only be described as every woman's hero in the mornings. I discovered it last year and have never looked back, even the mornings when I had fresh hair and just needed a lift. Never used it before? BUY IT!
2. Lush Snow Fairy - Possibly my favourite smelling and looking shower gel ever. This is a limited edition Christmas product at Lush and the thought of using the whole ginormous bottle of it in the bathroom and my travel size before Christmas 2012 is making me teary. It smells like heaven.
3. John Frieda Luxurious Volume Thickening Blow Dry Lotion - I read about this product in LibertyLondonGirl's post here and went on a hunt in Boots. I was a little apprehensive at first with the slightly high price but I never want to part with it. Ever. My usually flat hair loves the little extra volume and I love the fact that it's a spray and is idiot proof.
4. Lush Lip Tints - I currently have 'It Started with a Kiss' and the new Valentines shade - 'A Million Kisses'. The former is a slightly lighter red and the latter is a strong scarlet that I cannot stop wearing. If you don't have the time or patience for lipstick, take a look at these! (Review coming soon!) The Models Own is a clear gloss for when I can guarantee that my hair will not go anywhere near my face and stick to my lips!
5. Barry M All-In-One clear polish - If I forget to layer my nails in this before work, my nails become victims of death by cardboard box, crate or cage. Sob..
6. Daisy Marc Jacobs - When I found this bottle on sale I immediately knew it was fate. A discount AND a red bottle?! My prayers had been answered. It's now my signature scent and I dread the day that it runs out. I'm really hoping to try the other Daisy fragrance by Marc Jacobs soon as it smells like Parma Violets and prettiness.
7. Simple Revitalising Eye Roll-On and Light Moisturiser - I'm currently testing these out as I'm stuck in a skin care rut. My eyes always look so tired and I don't like a ton of product on my face so I'm hoping these will do the trick.
8. Soap & Glory Mascara - So far unused, this is a gift from Elle magazine this month. I've heard good things from this range so I'm looking forward to trying it out on V-day.
9. MAC Lipsticks - It's an addiction. Since my first perfect shade (Cindi Lauper Viva Glam) I seem to gravitate towards the MAC counter in celebration or depression. When I'm not wearing my Lush lip tint I'm obsessed with 'Such Flare!' from the 2011 Christmas range - a strong scarlett colour that matches my beret.
10. V05 hairspray and RightGuard - I always buy these when they are on sale because they're the best. I also love the HUGE bottle of hairspray because I'd just forget to buy more if I ran out frequently.
11. Nail Polish remover - For every nail design that I keep, three or four have been wiped away. I go through so many bottles of this stuff which does often make me worry about the hidden state of my nails..
12.And finally.... ELF mineral foundation and concealer - Since the high street decided it doesn't like mineral foundation anymore, I had to look further for my quick and easy look in the morning. I don't like a lot of make-up on my face and the thought of scraping and smoothing a foundation creme just isn't for me at this time - probably because I'd prefer to sleep...
So there we have it, my confession of a beauty drawer. I'm forever trying new products so if there's anything I've missed, do let me know...

Snow weekend!
Posted on 12:16 by Unknown
This weekend I have been full of happy vibes because the snow has finally arrived signalling the start of spring soon! Saturday started with a 5:30am alarm for work, a VERY chilly temperature and a promise of snow at the exact time I finished work - 2pm!
The cold gave me a cold - literally and I found myself needing some homely comfort food on my break, thank god for Mr Kipling!
2 o'clock arrived and we saw some tiny tiny snowflakes on the way home but then it stopped oh no... but then it reappeared! There was a four - five hour snowstorm leaving a good few inches of snow on our driveway - it was so beautiful to sit inside in the warm watching (and crying over) The Notebook and glancing outside at the snow falling under the street lamps.
This morning I woke up to a slightly picturesque view from my window. The snow was so bright it actually made my eyes water on the way to work which is where I saw this very creepy looking snowman.
After a four hour shift filled with happy and animated customers, the Sunday team finished the weekend with a mini snowball fight. (I may have hidden behind the cars for safety!) I hope you're all having fun in the snow, don't forget to wrap up in those wooly hats and mittens!

Madonna returns for the 2317th (ish) time - Yay!
Posted on 12:01 by Unknown
One of my most vivid memories as a child was constantly watching Madonna's Immaculate Collection video and prancing around the living room in an attempt to 'be Madonna'. My favourite was Material Girl and I loved the bit where the guys picked her up (I would lie on the sofa and pretend that I too was being picked up).
I also vividly remember using my own pair of colourful sunglasses and copying Madonna in the 'Lucky Star' video as she slowly removed her sunglasses at the start of the video and then put them back on at the end. The anticipation to put my glasses back on at the same time as Madonna was fierce. Vintage Madonna will always be my favourite Madonna and I still regularly listen to the classics whilst I'm getting ready as inspiration.
Then the little Material Girl in me grew up and Madonna kinda faded into the background for a while. Not having cable TV and being a nerd in school made me miss the awesome 2003 MTV VMAs performance with Madonna, Britney, Christina and Missy Elliot. It's also great to see some of the stars in the audience nearly ten years ago in questionable outfits! One of my favourite performances ever - I'm such a 90's child!
Of course I loved the 'new and improved' Madonna when she decided to compete with acts half of her age! The catchiness of Hung Up, Sorry and I Love New York kept the 'Confessions On A Dancefloor' album playing for many months through my dancing phase and the even more catchy ' 4 Minutes' made me wonder what sort of moves I could do on a moving conveyor belt.
Today as I was drowning in sales journals, the new Madonna music video for 'Give Me All Your Luvin'' went live and I really had to ditch the highlighters to take a look. The verdict? I'm going to be chanting 'L, U, V, MADONNA!' in my sleep tonight! I love the song and some of the video but I couldn't help but feel like there were too many theatrics which made her look a little weak and confused.. I also couldn't stop thinking about poor Britney videos where she knows what's going on but has little control..
Overall I think that little girl that dreamed of being the Material Girl will always make me love and listen to Madonna and I hope the critics won't slate her too much because we've all had a Madonna moment, right?
Happy February!

Motivation for the commute home in rush hour yesterday! |
I have decided to declare January as a write off as it was filled with illness, zero motivation and way too much cold weather. Instead, I am declaring that February will be the month to kick-start my placement and uni prep and generally be more positive! I'm also getting increasingly excited for my little trip to London in exactly three weeks staying in a newly refurbished hotel, eating Krispy Kremes and visiting LFWend, design museum and of course the shops! I'm slightly worried however at the state of my wardrobe for the coming season - watch this space...
:)
